What do we want this project to be?

Hi,

So, we are going to create a project for the Fove HMD, but what is this project going to be?

Lets get the ball rolling and throw some ideas around...

Like i have mentioned to Adrian, we could perhaps if all is in favor, create a first person game (since that is the most doable in vr) and then change the genre to (Adrian and i talked about an FP-Adventure game) either First Person (Action Adventure, Action Platformer, or maybe even an ordinary FP Adventure (just without all of the excitement) or maybe even an good 'ol fashion FP platformer that sets the player in the body of the playable character...)

Now i have also mentioned to Adrian that we could (in the First Person Action Adventure type of game) make the story something like this:

how about we set the player to start at home with his wife, and they're going on a trip, where they are getting some info on a lost treasure where the player suddenly has to find the treasure on the island him and his wife are on, and during that expidition the wife is being kidnapped, so the player has to find his wife after he has gotten the treasure, and in order to get his wife back some mercenaries wants the treasure, and then the player gets the possibles of either returning the treasure to the mercenaries or keep the treasure and get his wife out of the mercenary camp?

What do you Guys think?

Hi,

Thank you for setting up everything so fast. It will really help us!

I'm ok doing a game, but it will be hard for us if we don't find some artists. I don't know your skills for that, personally I can help with blender/maya, but I won't be able to make something great on my own... We could use assets, but will it be enough for our project?
And I'm ok doing a first-person game, as long as we make sure that it won't make people sick.

But because it's the beginning of the project, I think it's important to at least consider non-gaming applications. Of course, we will need to find something that we're all interrested in. So we could work on :

- a game : as I said I think we'll could need an artist for that. And maybe a person that can do game design (David?).
- or something more socialVR oriented : but I really don't have ideas on how we can do something different than altspace and co... but maybe we don't need artist for that...
- or something more like a software : maybe a modeling tool like tilt brush
- or a lib : maybe playing with foveated rendering, doing plugin for Unity or something.

It's not that I don't want to do a game, it would be really awesome to do a game. It's just ideas to do something a bit different.

Yeah that's true, it will be very difficult doing a game without artists... but we could try and ask on the collaboration site on unity's website? there are usually someone willing to Work for Money (just want to point out that i am not in this for the Money ;-) i couldn't care less about the Money!) but probably only if this is to be monetized... but i don't know what you Guys think? personally i have never tried to be a game designer, because i have primarily created games in my spare time as a solo developer, but i wouldn't mind trying, but the area where i am most comfortable in is the level designing... but i don't know? as i have mentioned to Adrian i have 2 yrs of C# experience, the first year of my unity knowledge went entirely into learning UnityScript which i have completely forgotten Razz I can also do simple modeling (have both modo801 and mayaLT) Oh and by the way we could use Mixamo's Fuse to begin with Smile if you can do props and Buildings either of you Guys, then we can just use the free version of Fuse (it now free on steam) or at least for a couple of characters?

I didn't know about Fuse, it could be useful.

And no, I'm not in this for the money either! I think it would be great to give the backers our demo for free Smile. And i'm ok spending a few $ for some cheap assets.

I have just made a simple example character for you to see what fuse is capable of Smile

I cannot direct give a link but you can click my website over on the right and add:

FuseExample.zip

Just be aware that we can create all the characters we want in the fuse app itself but when it comes to rigging we have a limited quantity for free!

Oh and btw i have realized that the collaboration forum on unity's website is for non-Commercial so maybe there is something to go for there?

I agree it has to be non-commercial, it's more fun that way. Have you guys seen the post from Scott at Five saying he is interested in joining in. It would be cool to get something into the VR community soon after the Fove lands.

In order to differentiate our project (and the Fove HMD) we need to make clever use of the eye tracking, beyond just using it for Foveated rendering.

Hi Admin, sorry for the late reply but yeah i have seen it and i think it's awesome Very Happy i'm honoured to be able to Work (even if it isn't full-time!) with one of the staff from FOVE Very Happy Of course it's also an honor to Work with you Guys, but with a member of the FOVE staff we might be able (if we can get some directions from Scott on how the FOVE Works!) to finish at the time the FOVE gets released... i have pledged for the 599$ tier so i will get mine 2 months before the most of the pledgers... but it is extremely awesome imo Very Happy
