I agree with standtall007 here, a first person game make sense if we have eye tracking. We can do a lot of cool stuffs with that. I think we should try to keep our game kind of slow, in order to reduce motion thickness (The Fove won't have time warping and we don't know about the latency) Here some general ideas.

- Some sort of flight/car sim
- Some puzzle/adventure game : I'd love to do something like Portal/Talos Principle or even something more action oriented like Legend of Zelda - We should find a lot of ideas for the eye tracking with this.
- I'm not sure if that's a good idea but we could also do a hybrid between a first person game and a "god" game with a view from above. That way the player will have switch between the two perspectives in order to make different actions.

Sounds like a modified/updated version of the old SNES game Actraiser.

Here's a couple quick shots of the game play.

It's a hybrid side scroller and sim but the game was remarkably fun.  They even made a sequel.

I see no reason a FPS sim hybrid wouldn't work. Smile

I like the idea of switching between first person and third, maybe by doing a long blink as though you were a small child wishing for something.

This dual role would suit a quest game quite well.

Regarding the switch of a third person mode and first person mode... i have a early prototype of a game called Taorh in short, and i have made the game so the player can press the back button on a 360 controller to switch between VR mode and and regular third person platforming, so i don't think it would be too difficult to implement Smile and my original idea for the player to be able to switch was so if the player had an DK2 he could play in vr if he wanted to, and if the player didn't have an DK2, no worries, the player could still play the game, just without VR Smile

and my point is i think that switch could make it more comfortable for the players to go out of VR if they felt motion sickness, and just continue (maybe at a later time) playing the game without a DK2.

What do you Guys say to that? Is that an option if we decide to do a game?

Edit... Now i don't mean that we should use an 360 controller to handle the switching, maybe like Admin mentioned by using a long blink function.

I like the idea of first-person, just because it mirrors what we experience in real life. Razz Though I've heard some good things about third-person perspectives in VR as well.

And yeah, you have to slow it way down. Most AAA FPS games, you are running at closer to 20 MPH. And yeah, people can run that fast -- the fastest human on record clocked in 28 MPH. But that's not exactly realistic, and few people sprint down corridors in real life. And you have to have all your in-game models be realistically sized as opposed to the kinds of crazy exaggerated sizes you see in even the most "realistic" AAA games.

Pretty much anything that that isn't realistic, or movement that the player doesn't intend, will add to simulation sickness.

I suspect that driving games or flying would work well, since most players will be at their desks sitting. But I also really want to see a fleshed-out eye tracking shooter game, so maybe I'll sit this discussion more on the sidelines. XD

I love this idea! It's probably the best way to do it!

Third-person perspectives is for me the most comfortable way to play in the DK2, I can play for hours a third-person game on the DK2. But it's harder for me in a first person game, I have to do some breaks (except for really slow experiences). That's why I suggest a hybrid,it may maybe help to decrease the sim sickness...

Here are some details for some hybrid games that I think could be fun, there's more possibilities so feel free to had your own.

As Adrian said the idea is to let the player change perspective between first person and "god" view with a long blink.

The first idea, is to have a hero that commands some troups. The FP mode would be a shooter from the point of view of the hero. You could add some abilities for the hero to boost troups stats.
In the "god" mode, the player could heal and give some orders to the troops. With this, a multiplayer game is worth considering...

The second idea, would look more like a portal-like, with some fighting sequences. The FP mode would be the player interacting with the level to solve puzzles, and maybe fight a few enemies in hand to hand combat.
The "god" mode would be the shooter, when you'll shoot down tons of enemies with eye tracking to keep the character alive.  The god mode would also help the player solve the puzzle, because it's easier when you see the map from above.

It may be a little bit ambitious ...  Very Happy

I really like the second idea above, it nicely combines the use of Foveated rendering only in first person mode and then eye tracking for control in the second.

It is ambitious but if we set ourselves the goal of a single scene for now it should be manageable.

Ooooo!!!! How about a Ghost In The Shell type game? That could be really fun. Switch between FPS in reality and then simulate having to do net dives to hack opponents and systems. Actually be able to take over one of the enemies and control him from a FPS standpoint and then later drop back to yourself.
